George Clooney to be Married at Downton Abbey
Now that Kimye’s wedding has passed this Memorial Day weekend and the honeymoon is now in full swing, the planets are beginning to fall out of alignment and there seems to be a little less magic in the universe. But there is good news for anyone who is taken with the enchantment of marital ceremony, as a new report has surfaced that claims George Clooney, eternal bachelor extraordinaire, will be exchanging vows with Amal Alamuddin – otherwise known as the luckiest girl in the world – at none other than the actual Downton Abbey.
Highclere Castle, which is located just outside of London, has become famous worldwide as the eponymous home to the Crawleys on the hit BBC television program. Clooney reportedly began making plans to have his wedding there when he saw Alamuddin’s reaction to the 1,000-acre estate. Apparently the star’s relationship with actor Hugh Bonneville, who plays Lord Grantham on the show, helped him snag the wedding destination. The two met on the set of Clooney’s recent film The Monuments Men.
Weddings are nothing new at Highclere Castle. The estate, which is owned by the real-life Lord and Lady Carnarvon, is licensed for civil ceremonies. It is likely that the wedding will take place in the Saloon, which bears the striking staircase that is featured prominently on the show each week.
Guests of the September event can also look forward to private tours of the castle, as well as the Egyptian Antique Exhibition that occupies the cellars. Moreover, meals will be provided by award-winning castle chef Paul Brooke Taylor.
But with the impending nuptials taking place at such a famous location, let’s hope this real life marriage will fare better than the ones on the TV show.
